Petal Middle School Volleyball Tryouts

Petal Middle School Volleyball will be holding 2014-2015 tryouts for incoming 7th and 8th grade girls on April 28th and 29th from 4:45-6:45 at the PHS gymnasium. You must have a current physical on file to tryout and you must attend both days of tryouts.

The Petal Panthers use big fifth inning to beat Brandon, 11-1

A seven-run explosion in the fifth inning led the Petal Panthers to an 11-1 win in five innings over Brandon at Panther Stadium on Tuesday.  The Panthers are now 11-4 on the season, and 4-1 district play.

Jacob Hiatt racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Petal Panthers . He doubled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and tripled in the fifth inning.

Calder Mikell struck out six, paving the way for a the Petal Panthers win. Calder allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks over five innings.

Colton Cox took the loss for Brandon. He lasted just three innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

The bottom of the second saw the Petal Panthers take an early lead, 1-0. The Petal Panthers attack began with a single from Peyton Swilley. Kyle Smith singled, plating Tanner Estill.

The Petal Panthers went up for good in the third, scoring two runs on an error.

Panthers win against Oak Grove, 4-1

Ty Hamby brought home the winning run to give the Petal Panthers (10-4) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Panthers hung on to beat Oak Grove 4-1 on Friday in a key district game.  The Panthers are now 3-1 in district play.

Tanner Estill reached on an error to get on base in the sixth. He then went from first to third on a single by Jalen Boney.

Jacob Hiatt went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Petal Panthers . He singled in the first and fifth innings.

Demarcus Evans struck out eight, paving the way for a the Petal Panthers win. Demarcus allowed one earned run on four hits and four walks over six innings.

Kirk McCarty ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just 5 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out seven, and allowed four runs.

Petal Panthers closer Drew Smith put away the final three outs to record the save.

The fourth inning saw Oak Grove score its only run of the day on a fielder’s choice.

The Panthers jump on Meridian early and win 11-1

The Petal Panthers got the win over Meridian 11-1 on Friday at Panther Stadium after a six-run rally in the third inning.  The Panthers improve to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in district play.

Kye Broom got on base three times in the game for the Petal Panthers . He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the first inning.

Demarcus Evans brought the heat against Meridian during his outing. Meridian managed just two hits off of Evans, who allowed one earned run, walked five and struck out five during his five innings of work.

Gage Nettles was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out three.

The Panthers get 14 strikeouts from Calder Mikell in 5-1 win over Meridian

Calder Mikell struck out 14 batters to lift the Petal Panthers (8-2)  to a 5-1 win over Meridian at Meridian in seven innings.

The Panthers  went up for good in the first, scoring one run on a fielder’s choice.

The Petal Panthers  scored two runs in the third inning, and then followed it up with two more in the fifth. In the third, the Petal Panthers  scored on an error, scoring Kyle Smith.

A bases loaded walk scored Kye Broom to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Zach Giacona’s single, plating Jacob Hiatt.

Meridian scored its only run of the game on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Practice will be every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday until we leave for camp.

March 25 Varsity uniform fitting in Room 226 at 4:00, bring $200 for deposit

Mandatory parent meeting on May 6 at 5:30 in PEC, bring $500. Payment schedule and camp information will be given out on this night.

Camp dates are May 26-30 (absences will be excused from school)

The Petal Panthers defeat Biloxi 4-1

Zach Giacona went 2-2, sparking the Petal Panthers to a 4-1 victory in seven innings over Biloxi on Friday at Panther Stadium.

He singled in the third and fourth innings.

Calder Mikell shut down Biloxi while he was on the mound. Biloxi managed just one hit off of Mikell, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six during his two innings of work.

Drew Smith  got the win for the Petal Panthers . He tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered two hits.

Blake Johnson couldn’t get it done on the hill for Biloxi, taking a loss. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

Petal Panthers closer Tristan Labove  put away the final seven outs to record the save.

The Petal Panthers stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring one run on an RBI single by Kye Broom .

The Petal Panthers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Drew ignited the offense,, bringing home Tanner Estill.
